If I told you that "you are a brand," what would you think?
Chances are you would look at me cross-eyed and be tempted to argue with me. We typically think of brands as big entities like Target, or Old Navy, or Nike. The average human being does not go around seeing themselves as a brand. It's just not a normal perception!
But what if we DID start to see ourselves that way? Would it change how we show up each day? Would it change what we post on social media? Could it be that by simply thinking of ourselves as a brand, we could connect the missing dots in our lives in new ways that finally help us get to where we want to go?
I think so.
I fully believe that you are a brand. As an employee. As an entrepreneur. As a person. You are a unique human being with experiences and skills that nobody else has!
I know, it sounds...a bit sleazy to think about creating an image for marketing purposes, right? It's okay if you think that way right now - I totally get it!...
This letter is for you. The entrepreneur who is ready to quit because it's lonely and thankless building a company alone. The small business owner who doesn't know how much longer it will take to make enough profit to bring home a paycheck. The founder who wonders why they started in the first place. And, for everyone in the "Messy Middle" of building a successful business.
The “Messy Middle” is the years between when you start your company and when you finally make a profit and bring home a paycheck. Depending on what kind of business you are building this could be a few years, or even up to a decade. You need to know this! Because if you do not you will quit on your dream too early, thinking you are a failure.
One of my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram is the Pink Papaya, founded by Sarah Landry. She has a podcast with over a million downloads and 1.6 million followers on Instagram. She is goals for most of us. Anyway, a few...

You influence people every day, and the problem with that is you probably don't even realize it.
Becoming an Influencer doesn't mean you have to have a massive audience. It means you understand what you bring to the table, and you're intentional in sharing it. But when you don't know that you already influence people every day, you squander the opportunity to make an impact. Over the next few moments, I want to share with you three ways that you already impact people without realizing it every day.
Did you smile at someone today or say thank you to a stranger that held the door open? If so, you influenced them to have a better day. On the other hand, if you were rude and cranky, you possibly influenced them to have a negative day too.
Your attitude and how you treat people you know, as well as people you don't know, is one of the most simple ways you influence people. Keep that in mind when you're in real...

My heart is heavy with the weight of what is happening in the world around me right now. Rather than try to write an amazing blog post with the right amount of words and keywords and catchy phrases that will help the Google find it, I want to speak from the heart. So here goes...
A few days ago in my community a well-known Wellness Coach and Fitness Trainer made a video that went viral. It went viral for all the wrong reasons. Over the course of three days it had over 80,000 views, 1,000 plus comments, and more shares than I could count before the person that screenshot the video and shared it finally took it down.
In this video she fat-shamed a manager of a food-coop claiming that she can’t do her job because she is obese. At the root of her accusations was outrage at the fact that a friend of hers just lost the job that this new manager was taking over.
I watched the video.
I was not surprised at the bold opinions of this leader because I’ve known...

Now is the time to move into the season of embracing our new normal. For the foreseeable future, this is real. It is here. How are we going to deal with it?
We no longer have the luxury as leaders, as parents, as spouses, as employers and employees to sit around in the trauma and the chaos of what’s going on and making it our excuse to not get used to this new normal. Nobody wants to do it. Nobody asked for a complete turnaround from what we knew to be normal. However, the fact is that it is here, and it is not going to change anytime soon. So instead of sitting around, waiting for somebody to let you know it’s time to come out of the house and then you’ll start getting back on track with your goals, make the choice to rise up. Something is shifting in the atmosphere and the overcomers are rising up. The overcomers are ready.
Now is the time to create a new normal. It is no longer the time to be sitting in the sorrow and pain of what’s going on. Be aware. Do...
In basketball it means to keep one foot in place while holding the ball and moving the other foot one step in any direction. The purpose of a pivot is to gain a positional advantage.
Right now, as of March 16, 2020, the United States is pivoting. Everywhere you look online, we see teams big and small pivoting. Some are panicking like Ross on F.R.I.E.N.D.S. screaming "Pivot! Pivot!" while getting metaphorically stuck on a staircase with a couch wedged against the wall because they are giving in to fear and panic. Others are handling it much better.
First, we realize that right now we need to pivot. We might not be able to physically go into the spaces we normally do, but we can still show up and be present right where we are.
Realize that pivoting is an offensive position. That's what we as a country are doing right now....
We all bring some sort of value to the table, no matter where we are. When you don’t know that you have value to offer, you don’t use it intentionally. Let’s quickly dive in to 4 Kinds of Value that we all have to offer.
Value 1: Functional Value
This is the solution that you offer. It can be a product, a service, a skillset, a communication style, etc. Employees can bring functional value simply by speaking up to offer a solution when needed. Entrepreneurs need to know the functional value they offer for their clients. And in our every day lives, we add functional value simply through the talents and gifts that we share. Self-awareness can even be a functional value!
Value 2: Monetary Value
Okay you might be thinking, “I don’t own a business. I work my job, I’m a full time employee. I don’t have any monetary value.”
That’s not true. Monetary value is a trade off between other values and the cost paid. So if you are an employee,...
