Book Club Series: Braving The Wilderness

Dec 09, 2019

She kept holding my hand and placed her other hand on top of mine. “You’re doing important work. Keep doing it. Keep talking about your work. Don’t stop and don’t let anyone get in your way.” Then she squeezed my hands and said, “Do not be moved, Brene.” ~Braving The Wilderness, Brene Brown

That’s good stuff right there. Today marks the start of a brand new series that I plan to highlight throughout the year. It’s simply called, The Book Club Series.

I love reading. You can find me diving into books ranging from spiritual growth, personal growth, business growth, and even YA fiction. I’m a sucker for that last one. But today I won’t talk your ear off about my favorite Shadowhunter or why I love the Hunger Games so much. Nope. Instead, I want to talk to you about a book that I devoured in less than two weeks. It spoke to me so deeply that it was like coming up for air after nearly drowning in the depths of my own...

3 Mantra’s To Help Your Attitude:

  • Every time I see someone else get chosen instead of me, I will say out loud: “Good for them! My time will come!”

The Spoon Theory - Podcast Highlight

Nov 25, 2019

“I have no spoons left to deal with this.” That’s a phrase my bestie used on a weekend girls trip to Minneapolis a few months ago. “No spoons? What does that mean?” I pondered out loud. Raychel then proceeded to explain to me The Spoon Theory. Ever since then, “no spoons” has been a phrase I’ve adopted. It’s a phrase that helps me give myself grace. More than that, it’s a completely practical way for me to explain chronic illness to the world around me.

According to Wikipedia, “The spoon theory or spoon metaphor is a disability metaphor, a neologism used to explain the reduced amount of mental and physical energy available for activities of living and productive tasks that may result from disability or chronic illness.” It was developed by Christine Miserandino and you can look her up at www.butyoudontlooksick.com.

In today’s episode of the She Who Overcomes Podcast, my bestie – Raychel Perman...

The Making of a Hero - Podcast Highlight

Nov 18, 2019

What makes a hero? My parents have both told me at different points of time that I am their hero. I really don’t feel like a hero so this got me thinking about what it means to BE one. The dictionary describes a hero as someone who “is noted for courageous acts or nobility of character.” Allow me to take a few moments to share with you some of my heroes in the world of cystic fibrosis, along with what I’ve learned on my own journey of living courageously.

Earlier this month I had the privilege of speaking at an event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and today’s episode is your chance to be inspired by that talk. I called it: The Making Of A Hero.

A Conversation About Mental Health with Kelly Sisson

Nov 11, 2019

A voice of encouragement is so refreshing in this day and age. My guest today, Kelly Sisson, is one of those voices. Her podcast, Kelly And The Encouragers, is becoming one of my favorites – seriously look it up on Apple Podcast!

In this episode we chat about the mental health stigma, self-love, and the difference between counseling and coaching. One of my favorite quotes from her during our conversation was this: “We hear a lot about the younger generations – like they are so into their phones, they are on social media all the time – but you know what they are getting right? Talking about their mental health. They are absolutely getting this right!”

Grab your coffee and spend some time with me as I interview my new friend, Kelly Sisson! (Then be sure to tune in to her podcast on 11/12/19 for an episode with me as her guest!)

Also, before you go, I have a question for you:

What was your vision for 2019?

If you took the time to write it down, you most likely experienced the reality of that vision. Writing down your vision gives you a road map for your life. Ancient wisdom says that a man without a vision will perish.

So let me ask you a few...

Podcast Highlight - Consistency

Oct 23, 2019

What does it mean to do a little bit, every day? It takes consistency. Let’s get real for a moment…Where do you want to be a year from now?

If we don’t take consistent action every day, part of our belief will die. Our belief in who we were meant to be, belief that things can be different and better, belief in why we are here…our belief in making sure that others will be able to overcome hard things, sickness, abuse, and trauma, too because we had the courage to consistently rise up every day.

Don’t let your belief die. Rise up and be consistent day in and day out. Because a year from now is coming. Grab your coffee and be encouraged by today’s episode. Ready? Listen on...

Podcast: Life Lessons from Running a Half Marathon with Cystic Fibrosis

Sep 30, 2019

One of my big personal goals for 2019 was to run a half marathon. Somewhere along the path of my 10k race in October 2018 I came up with the crazy idea. I figured that if I could run a 10k, maybe I could actually finish a half marathon, even if I had to walk some of it. Never mind the fact that I have Cystic Fibrosis – I wasn’t letting that stop me! Well, September 21, 2019 was the day that I accomplished this goal; the goal I never knew I needed! I learned some things with each passing mile, and I want to share them with you today. These are the 13 life lessons I learned from running a half marathon with Cystic Fibrosis.

Podcast Highlight - Personal Branding with Dr. Jennifer Bennett

Sep 23, 2019

Allow me to introduce you to my friend, Dr. Jennifer Bennett. Once upon a time, in 2011, Raychel and I flew to Orlando, FL for a conference. Jen lived in Orlando, and although we were only Facebook friends, she graciously agreed to pick us up at our hotel and bring us to a grocery store and Downtown Disney for a fun outing. Thankfully she was NOT a serial killer!

After our near decade of friendship since then, it is an incredible honor to have her as my guest on this week's episode! Jennifer is a social media expert and influencer with a heart for people. Our conversation in this episode dives into what personal branding really is, along with some tips for social media in 2019 and beyond.

Grab your coffee and let’s hang out with my friend, Jen!
